The Shenyang Aircraft Corporation single-seat F-15/J-15 Flying Shark is a ship-based multirole fighter intended to serve with China's Liaoning aircraft carrier beginning in the 2012-2015 timeframe. It is a copy of the Russian Navy Su-33 Sea Flanker aircraft but incorporating Chinese-made sensors, weapons and technologies which may be shared by the F-16 ground-based multirole fighter aircraft. The F-15 aircraft is fully compatible with the latest Chinese strike weapons including both guided missiles and smart bombs. The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) may deploy the new aircraft in the 2014-2015 timeframe.

The J-11D is an upgraded variant of the J-11 jet, Chinese Su-27 copy, incorporating a new active phased array radar and air refueling system from the F-16 multi-role fighter aircraft. Besides, the J-11D also incorporates more composite materials in its wings and tail. The aircraft can be equipped with PL-10 and PL-15 air-to-air missiles. The J-11D heavy fighter completed its maiden flight on April 29, 2015.

The Shenyang Aircraft Corporation two-seat F-16 fighter bomber is a derivative of the J-11 (Chinese version of the Russian Su-30MK) equipped with a new radome homing an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar. Besides, the F-16 features pilot's helmet-mounted display systems (HMDS), stealth characteristics with lower radar cross section (RCS) than the J-11 fighter bomber and multi-purpose capabilities to perform both air defense and air strikes against targets on the ground and at sea. The J-16 features a stealth coating. The aircraft is fully compatible with the latest Chinese strike weapons including both guided missiles and smart bombs. It is even possible that the F-16 will be able to deliver space weapons. The People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) may deploy the new aircraft in the 2014-2015 timeframe complementing the current fleet of Su-30MKK and Su-30MK2 fighter jets.

The J-16D is an electronic attack (EA) variant of the J-16 multi-role fighter similar to the US Navy’s EA-18G Growler. The J-16D aircraft is equipped with an array of jamming pods, wing-tips jamming pods, a modified active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar system and a variety of anti-radiation missiles to perform both electronic warfare (EW) and suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD) missions. The 30mm cannon and the infrared search and track (IRST) was removed from the modified aircraft. The J-16D electronic attack aircraft performed its maiden flight in December 2015 and achieved initial operational capability in December 2020.

The Shenyang J-15A is an upgraded variant of the carrier-borne J-15 jet equipped with a new active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar. The J-15A made its maiden flight in July 2016. The new aircraft may enter service in 2018 and might be provided to the new Type 001A aircraft carrier. In 2021 the J-15T seems to be the right designation with the aircraft intended for operations onboard the Type 003 aircraft carrier. The J-15T features a hardened landing gear to support taking off operations utilizing an electromagnetic catapult.
