Raytheon's AAQ-29 is a Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) sensor mounted on a turret and suitable for rotary-wing aircraft applications. The FLIR can support surveillance, navigation (even at low level) and long-range target acquisition missions utilizing mid-wavelength IR technology. The AAQ-29 relies on a 480 x 640 element, 3-5 micron wavelength indium antimonite detector and a three field of view telescope on a 12-inch (30-cm) diameter turret.

On 14 Septebmer 2005, the US Navy issued Raytheon a $39 million contract for 83 AAQ-29A kits to be integrated onto the Super Stallion CH-53E helicopters operated by the Marine Corps. The contract also included software updates to operate the FLIR system.
