The AN/AWG-9 long-range, pulse-Doppler radar system allows the F-14 Tomcat to detect and track up to 24 airborne targets and selectively attack up to 6 of them in any weather at ranges of 200 kilometers. The AWG-9 radar also provides the ability to detect small, low-flying targets. The AN/APG-71 is a derivative of the AWG-9 radar system. It retains the vital features of AWG-9, but upgraded processing speed, flexibility and signal/data processor capacity had been added. The APG-71 radars are installed on US Navy's F-14D Super Tomcat.
