The Zarya-ME is a family of hull-mounted sonar suite for small, medium and large displacement surface ships. It has been designed to detect submarines and surface ships in active mode using hull-mounted, towed and dipping sonar arrays. In passive mode, it can detect incoming torpedoes, submarines and surface ships. The Zarya-ME provides automatic target tracking and classification, including decoys. Communications through acoustic signals with submarines and surface ships is also possible as well as Identification Friend or Foe (IFF).

The hull-mounted sonar operating in active mode can detect a 10-meter diameter target at ranges of up to 35 kilometers or up to 160 km utilizing passive mode. The dipping sonar can detect a 10-m diameter target at 16 km only in active mode. The towed array Vinyetka-EM can detect the same kind of target at ranges of 14 to 15 kilometers operating in active mode while being towed at speeds below 18 knots.
