The Rauma class of fast attack crafts have been designed to perform coastal defense missions in the Baltic Sea environment employing RBS 15 anti-ship missiles and a 40mm naval gun system. These 200-ton class vessels can developed a top speed of more than 30 knots powered by two waterjets and are especially well suited for the littoral environment. Finland developed these all-aluminum hull ships because they are almost invisible in terms of electronic surveillance. Six Mistral surface-to-air missiles provide a limited anti-air warfare capability.
The Finnish Navy procured four Rauma-class missile boats beginning in 1990 through 1992 built by STX Finland.

The Rauma class fast attack crafts were designed to perform coastal defense missions in the Baltic Sea environment employing anti-ship missiles such as the RBS15. Moreover, the ship's design flexibility allows to perform anti-aircraft warfare as well as other missions. The Squadron 2000-class crafts, also known as Hamina and Rauma 2000, are an enhanced, heavier and far more faster derivative of proven Rauma-class fast attack boats. The improved 250-ton Hamina boats feature a hull made of aluminum and composite materiel powered by two waterjets. The Finnish Navy original plan was to procure two Squadron 2000 class vessels with the first one commissioned in 1998. As of early 2005, the Finnish Navy was expanding the scope of Squadron 2000 program for two additional ships to be commissioned in 2005 and 2006. These crafts will be upgraded beginning in 2018 with the addition of the New Lightweight Torpedo and Trackfire remote weapon station.
The Hamina-class boats equipment includes a 57mm Mk3 naval gun system, four RBS 15 anti-ship missiles, eight Umkhonto surface-to-air missiles, sea mines, and MASS countermeasures. In September 2005 EADS demonstrated the command and control, and reconnaissance systems provided to Finland's Squadron 2000 ships. These equipment consists of the Advanced Naval Combat System ANCS advanced data processing system, the TRS-3D radar and the Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar MSSR 2000 I Interrogator Friend or Foe (IFF). This milestone also marked the entry into service of the Finnish Navy's Hamina. The remaining ships in the Squadron 2000 class were scheduled to receive this equipment before the end of 2006. These missile boats are fitted with the CEROS 200 FCS fire control system and TRS-3D radar.
