The FAB-500 is a general purpose bomb employed by Russian Air Force tactical fighter aircraft carrying a 500 kilogram high explosive (HE) warhead. The FAB-500 bomb features a single nose fuze and a low drag, streamlined design. The former Soviet Union introduced the first models of the modern FAB-500 bomb in 1962. Since then this kind of unguided bomb has been employed in a variety of conflicts. It was employed during the Russian Air Force campaign in Syria in 2016 and 2017 with outstanding results being released by the Su-24M bombers with one meter circular error probable (CEP) thanks to the SVP-24 targeting module.

The FAB-500M62 is 500-kilogram aerial bomb modified to carry out precision strike attack at long ranges using glide modification kit. The new long-range, glide bomb is intended to be used during the Special Military Operation in Ukraine beginning in April or May 2023. The winged FAB-500 bomb has been designed to be released by tactical aircraft such as the Su-34, Su-35S and Su-30SM. Besides, the bomb wing kit may feature GLONASS satellite navigation to achieve enhanced accuracy. The glide bomb has a maximum range between 70-100 kilometers.
