The HMMWV Hawkeye is a new variant of the Humvee tactical vehicle fitted with a 105mm cannon to provide both direct and indirect fire support in the battlefield. This high mobility self-propelled howitzer can move, shoot and move again with minimal logistics support and crew requirements. The Hawkeye mobile weapon system utilizes the M20 105mm cannon integrated onto the M1152A1/B2 tactical vehicle along with a digital fire control system which reduces the need for external support. The M20 cannon has a maximum range of almost 20 kilometers firing Rocket Assisted Projectiles (RAP) or 12 kilometers firing conventional projectiles while delivering a maximum rate of fire of 8 rounds per minute or 3 rounds per minute sustained. The US Army started test firing of the new Hawkeye howitzer in the summer of 2018.
