The Karrar is a main battle tank (MBT) designed and manufactured in the Islamic Republic of Iran which externally resembles the Russian T-90MS tank. The Karrar is provided with a state-of-the-art electro-optical fire control system, laser rangefinder and ballistic computer to achieve outstanding fire accuracy. The tank's mobility and fire power using a 125mm gun are also outlined by the Iranians. Iran claims that the tank is capable of firing anti-tank guided missiles. Its development may have been influenced in some degree by Iran's T-72 tanks and maybe leveraged some form of technical assistance by the Russians. Official negotiations between Iran and Russia on the domestic production of the T-90MS tank with some form of technology transfer ended with no deal in 2016. It is also possible that Russia assisted Iran on the development of Karrar to fool Western powers and their arms embargo. The Karrar existence was announced in February 2016 and was introduced into the Iranian Armed Forces in March 2017 when the Iranians already had launched its mass production following TV footage.
