The AN/AQS-24 is a helicopter-mounted mine detection system designed to operate remotely. It will enable current ships to navigate safely through channels as well as harbor mine mapping within homeland and force deployment missions. The system can be deployed by rotary wing aircraft such as the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) MCH-101 aircraft.

The US Navy's AN/AQS-24B is a mine hunting system featuring improved image resolution as well as the speed of real-time sonar processing. The Northrop Grumman AQS-24B is intended to detect, classify and localize modern-day mine threats deployed on the MH-53E helicopter and Mine Hunting Unmanned Surface Vessels (MHUs). The new sonar system demonstrated its ability to perform synthetic aperture signals processing at 18 knots at real time in September 2015.

The AN/AQS-24C is an advanced mine hunting sonar developed by Northrop Grumman for the US Navy. The new variant of the ASQ-24 provides high-speed capability to detect and classify moored mines while simultaneously hunting bottom mines. Compared with the B variant, the C encompasses an ahead-looking topographic large area survey (ATLAS) volume search sonar capability and associated mine hunting software. The AQS-24C will be deployed by the MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopter beginning in the 2020-2021 timeframe.
