The Infrared Search and Track (IRST) Block II is an advanced sensor being developed by Boeing to allow the F/A-18E/F to detect multiple airborne targets without utilizing the radar system. The IRST Block II sensor $89 million development contract was awarded to Boeing on May 25, 2017. The US Navy expects to deploy the new sensor and fire control system onboard the Super Hornet aircraft by 2020.
