The Komar is an autonomous, shipborne, gyro-stabilized turret missile system intended to engage incoming airborne threats at short ranges. The Komar turret carries up to six short-range, infrared-guided, Igla and/or Igla-S surface-to-air missiles capable of taking down aircraft, helicopters and anti-ship cruise missiles. The Komar turret has been designed for integration onto surface ships displacing more than 50 tons such as small combatants and auxiliary vessels. The turret includes an electro-optical package system operating in the visible and infrared spectrum that automatically tracks an incoming threat. The Komar weapon system can operate against jamming systems.

In October 2023, the Komar system was upgraded to engage fast attack boats at speeds of up to 50 knots firing Ataka anti-tank guided missiles. The updated Komar can deal with high-speed sea drones such as the used by Ukraine to hit Russian targets in the Black Sea.
