The Small Turbofan Engine (STFE) is a new engine being developed by India to power subsonic Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as well as long-range cruise missiles such as Nirbhay. The engine features a maximum thrust of 400 kilograms with 95 percent of components being produced domestically in India. The engine is intended to operate at altitudes of up to 30,000-ft (10,000 meters). The engine is expected to enter the flight test program in the first half of 2019.
