The multi-purpose ship is expected to be configured using mission modules to fight a wide variety of targets such as airborne threats, surface ships, submarines as well as providing support for shore deployments. The MKS-180 ship is expected to have a displacement of 10,000 tons with a crew of 180-man. The lead ship of the MKS-180 project is expected to be commissioned in the late 2020s around 2028. The German Navy has a first batch of four frigates on order with Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding.
The MKS 180 class frigates will be equipped with the TACTICOS combat management system and the Above Water Warfare System (AWWS) fire control cluster. The frigates will include the APAR Block 2 advanced radar system.
