The US Navy's Ship-to-Shore Connector (SSC) is a replacement for the Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) utilized by the Navy and Marine Corps to land troops, vehicles and equipment onshore. The SSC program is expected to deliver a craft capable of landing at more than 80 percent of the world's shorelines for the next 30 years beginning by 2020. In July 2012, the US Navy selected Textron Marine & Land Systems to design and produce a SSC test and training prototype craft to be delivered by February 2017 under a $213 million contract. The initial contract includes a $570 million option for up to eight SSCs to be delivered by 2020. Along with Textron, Alcoa Defense and L-3 Communications are responsible for the execution of the SSC program.

The key requirements of the SSC will allow it to provide the surface assault portion of the US Joint Expeditionary Maneuver Warfare tactical plan with the capability to project and sustain military operations from the sea, independent of tides, water depth, underwater obstacles, or beach gradient. The US Navy plans call for the procurement of 73 SSCs.
